The term 'dieta' denotes a dietary preparation for working with Amazonian Plant Medicine. While the Spanish word 'dieta' most closely describes the preparatory cleansing of the physical body for work with plant medicine, the Shipibo term 'sama' gets us much closer to the original meaning of this purificatory preparation. The term 'sama' is associated more closely with the act of 'retreat,' implying a withdrawal from all stimulating sensations. We therefore suggest, in addition to certain alimentary restraints, to be mindful of what you consume with your eyes and ears.
